Golden haired and strapping tall Your muscled figure stands for all I'm missing. Your sunlit smile across a lawn Is clear and bright, Ixtapa warm Like wavelets sparkling on the sea Your cheerful greeting dazzles me— disarming. I've come from far off winter snow From cold and ice and winds that blow My senses dulled from lack of light From chilly rooms and sleepless nights— I'm thawing. Like macaws squawking from the trees Your booming laugh is balm to me Your supple movements, quick and strong, Have tuned me in, a rhythmic song— temptation. A beach enclosed by sandy arms And lined with graceful coco palms Supports a structure made for flight That calls for courage, nerve and might— it beckons. The high trapeze swings far and wide A perfect place to leave my pride. The ladder tall, the platform thin, You stand so close and hook me in. I'm not sure what this jump will take But clearly now, it’s one I’ll make— release me. I grab the bar and hurtle down To what seems straight into the ground But arc instead into the air My spirit soars above my cares— I'm flying. To trust in forces I ignore Could that be what I’ve come here for? I'll take a chance and make the leap To see what pleasures risk can reap— I’ll gamble. . Leave all the baggage down below We need few props for this sweet show Where earth-defying acts succeed In triumph over gravity. However briefly, we could try To soar in sync now, you and I— get weightless. Waves rise and crest and crash in foam Send nervous sand crabs scuttling home. But tides and currents carry out To deeper waters those that flout The suits and ties and protocols Of land-bound souls who live by laws And strict restraints that make them soft While endless surf keeps you aloft in freedom. My finger weighted down with gold I'm neither free nor very bold With sun-stroked head I pack to go, Lost in dreams of Mexico. The hour comes to turn back north I brace myself against the frost that waits me.
