The following are Café Mundo's policies regarding use, privacy and content of material submitted to Café Mundo. These policies apply to all materials, online communications and other information that is available on this website. By logging on and using Café Mundo's website, you agree to abide by these policies and any modifications thereto. If you do not agree to abide by any of these rules, please do not use this site. These policies may be modified by Café Mundo from time to time, and become binding when posted on line. Please review them periodically.

Agreement to Abide By Law

You agree to abide by all applicable federal, state and local laws in connection with your use of Café Mundo, including the use of any materials published on the Café Mundo website. Among these are all laws pertaining to harassment, invasion of privacy, obscenity, and copyright infringement. The materials available at Café Mundo may include intellectual property that is protected under the copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws of the United States or of other countries. Such laws generally prohibit the unauthorized reproduction, distribution or exhibition of all text, photographic and graphic images, music, and other protected material.

Notice Regarding Privacy

If you wish to submit articles to this site, we request that you register with us. This involves providing us with personal information , including name, address, telephone number, e-mail address, and any affiliation with a business, organization or university, if applicable. This information is for Café Mundo's internal records, and we do not intend to publish it. Any personal information that you want disclosed with your submittals to this website should be included in the body of the submitted material. By including personal information (such as your name and e-mail address) in the text of submitted materials, you give permission to Café Mundo to publish it.

It is Café Mundo's policy not to disclose any personal information about website visitors or contributors to any third party without first receiving the user's permission. Still, you should be aware that any online communication may not be fully confidential. Café Mundo has access to communications on this website, and reserves the right to disclose any communication to the extent permitted or required by law.

This site contains Bulletin Board materials posted directly by site users. We do not routinely review materials posted directly by individuals who use this site, and we cannot take responsibility for the content of their submitted materials. We do reserve the right to remove posted material from either the Bulletin Boards or the Bookshelf sections at our sole discretion.

You agree not to submit or post any material to this site, including the Bulletin Boards, which is libelous, obscene, abusive or threatening.

Prohibition Against Rogue Programming

You shall not post, transmit or make available in any way to or through Café Mundo any software or any other materials which contain a computer virus, or other rogue programming. Café Mundo has no obligation to detect the presence of any rogue programming. Any download of software or other materials and any other use of the information on Café Mundo's website is at your risk, an you are advised to take adequate precautions to minimize any loss to your system caused by rogue programming, including the use of anti-virus programs and regular system backup procedures. Users are cautioned against uploading or downloading Microsoft Word documents without taking appropriate precautions to detect and remove macro-embedded viruses.

Content of Information

The posting of material, including software, that infringes on the intellectual property rights, copyright or trademark of others is unlawful and forbidden. You also agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Café Mundo and/or its owners and editors from all claims, actions and liability, including costs and attorneys' fees, arising from your use of this website or your failure to abide by any applicable law.

Use of Information

The right to download and store materials from this site is granted for the user's personal use only. These materials may not be used for commercial purposes. You may not reproduce, publish or distribute material from this site without prior written permission of the author or owner of the material.

Café Mundo does not claim ownership or authorship of material published on this website. However, by posting material to this site, or submitting material to Café Mundo for publication, you grant to Café Mundo a worldwide license to edit, translate, copy and publish such material, to make it available to other users of the site, and to publish, republish and distribute such material in any format and any media forever (perhaps in some future coffee-table book, "The Best of Café Mundo"). Distribution or publication of submitted material shall not obligate us to pay royalties or fees to the authors or owners of that material.

Submittal Policies and Procedures

We welcome postings to our Bulletin Boards, which can be made directly by you through this website. We do not routinely edit the content of these postings, nor do we offer any compensation for them. Bulletin Board postings should be germane to Café Mundo subjects: examples would include comments on submitted papers or articles, travel notes, questions or responses to other Bulletin Board postings, and requests for help or information.

Offers of commercial services or products should NOT be posted on the Bulletin Boards, but may be sent to Café Mundo for inclusion on the "Services" tab in the Travel Section.

All submittals should be in Microsoft Word for the PC. Users with other than DOS-based operating systems should save their documents as PC documents before submitting them.

Payment Policies

Café Mundo is an on-line magazine, and may offer remuneration for research papers and articles of journalistic quality which are accepted by us for publication. This offer to pay for submittals does not obligate us to pay for work that is submitted or published. We offer payment at our sole discretion as an inducement to talented writers to submit research material that is of good academic quality, footnoted and referenced, or for interesting and well-written non-research articles appropriate to the theme of this website.

As a rule of thumb, we will pay fifty dollars (U.S.) for submittals of approximately ten pages in length, or five dollars (U.S.) per 850-word page.

We reserve the right to edit materials submitted for publication, and to vary the remuneration offered. The amount of remuneration offered - if any - as well as the decision to publish or not to publish submittals is at our sole discretion. Payment for all submittals will be made after notification to the author of our intent to publish, and within 30 days of the date of actual publication.

By submitting work to Café Mundo, you retain all rights of authorship, including the right to submit your work to other publishers or publications. In turn, you grant to Café Mundo a worldwide, irrevocable royalty-free license to edit, translate, copy and publish your submitted material; to make it available to other users of the site, and to publish, republish and distribute it.

Translation

We routinely translate English articles into Spanish and Spanish articles into English. We will accept submittals in either language, with or without translation. You may submit translated work for remuneration, but Café Mundo reserves the right to accept or reject such translated work at our sole discretion. We retain the right to translate all submitted information either before or after publication on this website. By submitting material to this website, you agree to allow Café Mundo to publish a translated copy of your submitted work. Authors who detect errors or omissions in translated work should bring them to the attention of Café Mundo via e-mail (admin@cafemundo.net). We will attempt to correct or retract the text of the work in question.

Editorial Policy

We reserve the right to edit all submittals for length, content, grammar, spelling, and journalistic interest prior to publication.
